TransCanada says it is committed to Keystone XL pipeline after judge orders

first_imgCALGARY, A.B. – The Canadian proponent of the $10-billion Keystone XL crude pipeline says it remains committed to the oft-delayed project despite a Montana judge’s ruling that it must pass a further environmental review.TransCanada Corp. spokesman Terry Cunha says the company has received the judge’s ruling and is reviewing it.U.S. District Judge Brian Morris put the project on hold, ruling that the potential impact had not been considered as required by federal law. Environmentalists and Native American groups had sued to stop the project, citing property rights and potential oil spills. The federal court order blocks a Trump administration permit for the construction of the pipeline. President Barack Obama appointed Morris.TransCanada shares on the Toronto Stock Exchange fell by as much as 2.75 percent in early trading on Friday.A shortage of export pipeline space to carry away growing oil production in Alberta has been blamed for recent steep discounts in prices for Canadian heavy crude as compared to New York-traded benchmark oil.The 1,897-kilometre pipeline would carry as much as 830,000 barrels of crude per day from Hardisty, Alta., to Steel City, Neb., and on through a half-dozen states to refineries on the Gulf Coast.(THE CANADIAN PRESS)last_img read more

Video: Centrale Danone Building in Mohammedia on Fire

Rabat- A Centrale Danone building in Mohammedia, near Casablanca, caught fire this afternoon. No injuries have been reported so far.A video of the blaze spread like wildfire on social media, capturing steam as it emerged from the burning building of the dairy company, which is one of the targets of the ongoing boycott. The person who recorded the footage and shared it on Youtube and Facebook said of the scene: “The fire consumed everything.” In reference to consumers’ complaints that the company set high prices, he said,“It’s karma.” It is not yet known what caused the fire or if any injuries have yet been recorded.

BCIJ Investigates Video of Murder Suspects Pledging Allegiance to ISIS

Rabat – A statement from the public prosecutor at Rabat’s Court of Appeals said that Morocco’s Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation (BCIJ) is investigating whether the video of four people suspected of murdering two Scandinavian tourists is authentic.A video that has gone viral on social media shows the four people suspected of murdering Louisa Vesterager Jespersen and Maren Ueland near Mount Toubkal pledging allegiance to the leader of ISIS, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.In the video, one of the suspects expresses the group’s intention to carry out terrorist attacks. The investigations and technical intelligence found that “the published video was shot last week before the criminal acts in question were committed,” according to the public prosecutor’s statement. The statement emphasized that investigations are underway, supervised by the public prosecutor’s office, to determine the motives and circumstances surrounding the crime. read more

Putting Robotic Process Automation Into Action

Credit Checks — The credit check process typically requires the input of one to three data elements and then a request for the credit information. A software robot, triggered by a contact center agent, can harvest relevant customer information from a system of record and use it to request a credit score from a Web-based service. The robot can then capture the credit score, run logic to determine the credit worthiness, and inform the agent of the result while writing a note about the event in one or multiple systems. Estimated savings: 20 to 40 seconds per eventAccess to Feature Entitlement Information — A software robot uses billing-plan data it captures from a billing system to access a display of the features available for the selected plan. The company can use this information to support up-selling or during troubleshooting calls for feature-entitlement verification. Estimated savings: 15 to 25 seconds per eventProvisioning — Tapping into multiple billing systems, a software robot can use feature entitlements data for triple-play customers to configure and enable purchased features and services. Further, the robot can test the features to make sure they work. Estimated savings: 90 to 420 seconds per eventCase Creation — A software robot handles case creation with a copy/paste function from multiple interfaces. Because the robot can access more information than a human can reasonably contemplate, it can more accurately categorize and assign a case. This automation is especially useful for trouble calls. Estimated savings: 90 to 240 seconds per eventTelco operators using RPA for the automation of trouble calls (network analysis, device analysis, entitlement analysis) can save between two and five minutes per interaction. This time-savings is achievable when robotically automating the interrogation of outage management systems, network management systems, endpoints, and network components typically performed at the beginning of trouble calls. The technician can trigger the robot as needed. Software robots are optimized to perform repetitive tasks. It doesn’t matter if the repetitive task supports provisioning, upgrades, or troubleshooting in the telco or enterprise network business. Customers and network managers will benefit from the use of software robots in different ways. What’s RPA, Why Should I Care? Diane Halliwell August 07, 2019 While robotic process automation is in its infancy, contact centers are finding its promise for streamlining workflows and reducing costs. Telco network operators using robotic process automation (RPA) for the automation of customer on-boarding (credit checks, case creation, entitlement analysis, and provisioning) can save between two and five minutes per interaction. The time-savings can be found in the robotic automation of: Tracking the Evolution of Genesys’ Kate Sheila McGee-Smith June 17, 2019 From concept to platform to generally available intelligent virtual assistant See All in AI & Automation » These automations would include the systematic capture of information about the customer from relevant systems of record to negotiate with relevant outage and network management systems, switches, routers, and other devices. The robot can then summarize the troubleshooting results for the technician, as well as offer other automation tools based on what it has found. Further, with machine learning, these robots will learn the remediation processes that the technician performs and, over time, begin to automate the fix processes. Estimated savings: 150 to 300 seconds per eventIndeed, an additional benefit of all of these automations is that the robot can feed data and metadata about each transaction to a machine learning platform. Uniquely, these robots can collect and blend data from information and communications systems for this purpose. This will allow network managers to identify previously unknown defects in their call-handling processes, networks, billing and provisioning systems that cause customers to request assistance. Human invocation of these robots during customer interactions is particularly effective at reducing technician and customer effort, and we’re seeing rapid improvement in first call resolution. This is primarily the result of the contact center technician’s ability to focus more attention on the customer and not on navigating screens. Software robots reduce the cost of running a contact center and collaterally improves the quality of human engagement. Finally, they improve customer loyalty by reducing customer effort.Tags:News & ViewsRobotic process automationsoftware robotsAI & AutomationContact Center & Customer ExperienceDigital TransformationTechnology TrendsVendor Perspective Articles You Might Like Contact center-based provisioning and troubleshooting are two of the most cumbersome tasks for telco network managers. They require access to multiple systems and are huge time traps for vendors and customers. If you’ve ever been on a call with a telco and the technician has said, “Sorry, my computer is running slow today,” then you know what I mean. turn-on-2917047__340.jpg Voice Communications in Business: Now and into the Future Sergey Poroshin June 18, 2019 In the future, bots will be mainstream and it will be considered a luxury to be able to speak with a human operator. In the broadband business, the use of human-triggered, software robots to provision and troubleshoot network devices will save time and effort for every customer interaction that includes a purchase or service request. When provisioning an endpoint or service, the contact center technician needs to work with systems that offer information regarding the customer’s credit worthiness, feature entitlement, configuration, billing, and possibly case management. Further, for troubleshooting a customer’s issues, contact center technicians may also have to access network components, endpoints, network management systems, and possibly outage management systems. If you’re counting, that may be as many as eight different information/configuration interfaces — that’s typical of telco-based contact centers. Corruption undermines democracy and contributes to instability warns senior UN anticrime official

Ms. Dummar-Frahi called for greater cooperation, joint operations and mutual legal assistance among Governments, with involvement from civil society, the private sector and international organizations. In an interview with UN News on Tuesday, the senior United Nations official pointed out that tackling corruption plays an important role in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Organization’s blueprint for a sustainable future that leaves no one behind.“The fight against corruption is deeply rooted in Sustainable Development Goal 16, which aims to provide access to justice for all, and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels,” she explained.“One of the targets within this Goal, Target 6.15, is to ‘substantially reduce corruption and bribery in all its forms’, and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime is the guardian of the only legally binding universal anti-corruption instrument: the UN Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC). The vast majority of UN Member States are parties to the Convention”.Success in achieving this target is measured by the reduction, on an annual basis, in the proportion of businesses, and people, who paid, or were asked to pay, a bribe to a public official.“The Convention’s far-reaching approach makes it a unique tool for developing a comprehensive response to the global problem of corruption”, said Ms, Dummar-Frahi. “The countries that are party to it have made great progress, and have improved their anti-corruption regulations and legislation”. This process has brought the fight against corruption to a higher level, she explained, helping to harmonize legislation and international cooperation, and a peer-review process, adopted in 2009, has created momentum, advancing and evaluating the implementation of the Convention into domestic law.Civil society engagement an integral factor in tackling corruption Since 2011, teams from UNODC have been training civil society organizations to work with national authorities, and helping them to take part in anti-corruption events, outreach and other activities.Civil society, individuals and the private sector need to be encouraged to actively participate in preventing corruption, and raising awareness of its existence, as well as the causes and gravity of the threat it poses, urged Ms. Dummar-Frahi.“There are three main areas where civil society and other non-State partners can work towards ending corruption: advocacy, monitoring and building expertise,” she said.“In the course of conducting advocacy, civil society organizations can gain insights and gather information for further monitoring initiatives, which can ensure that standards or obligations have been fulfilled. They can identify gaps, and provide evidence for advocacy at the local, national and international levels”.“The more expertise they gain, the better assistance they can give to governments in effective implementation of the Convention Against Corruption and other anti-corruption legislation”. read more

OSU flexes muscles at Friday Night Lights

Ohio State 2018 quarterback target Emory Jones (center) participates in drills with current Buckeye quarterback Joe Burrow watching. Credit: Jacob Myers | Assist. Sports EditorIn its fifth season as a staple in the summer recruiting period for Ohio State football, Friday Night Lights hosted and showcased an abundance of high school talent from across the nation in front of fans, coaches, former and current players, and media. It had been more than three months since the annual spring game, which means Buckeye fans everywhere salivated at any glimpse of football they could get.Currently boasting the No. 1 ranked class in 2017, OSU put on an all-out blitz for some of the nation’s prized recruits. The recruiting spectacle that took place in Ohio Stadium on Friday night was designed from the brain trust of coach Urban Meyer and director of player personnel Mark Pantoni. When the two put together the event’s inauguration in 2012, the amount of talent present in 2016 inside the ‘Shoe on a random Friday night in July is what Pantoni and Meyer envisioned from the start.ImpressionsThis was the first opportunity many fans got a chance to see Buckeye commits in action, including 2017 quarterbacks Danny Clark and No. 1 dual-threat quarterback Tate Martell. 2018 four-star quarterback target Emory Jones also showed off his talent and has been drawing some serious interest from the OSU staff since Jones said the Buckeyes were his front-runner in June. Martell has dominated the media covering recruiting since his commitment on June 12, but Clark, who has been committed since his freshman season, was sharp all night. Clark told reporters after the event that he came to Columbus to “prove I’m the best quarterback in the 2017 class.” The class of 2017 quarterbacks could be a battle to watch, especially with current Buckeye freshman Dwayne Haskins Jr. and redshirt freshman Joe Burrow already in the mix. OSU has also been recruiting wide receivers heavily for 2017, and rightfully so. Five-star wideouts Donovan Peoples-Jones, Trevon Grimes and Tyjon Lindsey all have OSU high on their lists of schools they’re interested in. Peoples-Jones was not in attendance, and Grimes did not participate and hung out alongside Meyer all night, but Lindsey shined all five stars on Friday night. At times, it seemed like Lindsey was the only person in a drill because his combination of immaculate speed and shiftiness allowed him consistently to create five yards between him and the defender. However, Lindsey arguably wasn’t the most impressive at FNL. 2017 four-star receiver Jaylen Harris displayed great hands showing the ability to catch the ball with contact, and plus-quickness with his size of 6-foot-5, 210 pounds.Harris took a nasty fall during a rep where he went up to catch the ball and landed hard on his face and right shoulder. He was surrounded by medical staff for a few minutes before walking to a cart on his own where he was taken to be evaluated. Harris owns a Buckeye offer.Along with Lindsey and Harris performing well, the quarterbacks mentioned before showed inconsistency with throws but had plenty of highlights that pleased the small crowd.Commitment WatchOSU tallied two commitments in 2015 from current freshman tight end Luke Farrell and 2017 kicker Blake Haubeil. On Friday, the catch was a little greater as to be expected with a large pool of talent.Four-star defensive end Chase Young committed to the Buckeyes at FNL making that No. 15 for the class of 2017. Young is ranked as the third best weak-side defensive end in his class. Young said that he believes he is the best in his class.Four-star running back Brian Snead also made a pledge to Meyer’s program, becoming the first to do so for the 2018 recruiting class. On Saturday, defensive back Amir Riep from Colerain High School in Cincinnati announced his decision to play for the Buckeyes. Riep attended FNL but did not participate, and it appears it made quite the impact on him.A couple dates to keep an eye on in the future will be Aug. 22 and Aug. 24 when Lindsey and Grimes announce their decisions, respectively. read more

Prince William speaks out about scourge of drug spice

The visit was the second of the day for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridg, who had spent the morning meeting young patients at Evelina London Children’s Hospital following the announcement the Duchess was to become its new patron.William and Kate were greeted at the hospital by six-year-old Tiana Hayles who gave the Duchess, who was wearing a green and white polka dot LK Bennett dress, a bunch of posies.Evelina London will be celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2019, and to celebrate the duke and duchess unveiled and helped to complete a piece of specially commissioned artwork with some of the children. “How cheap it is to just get, how readily available it is, I think they were shocked and I think it really brought home this is a drug that targets the poorest of the poor.”If you’re on the streets it doesn’t get much worse but if you’re on the streets and then you’re taking something that literally one puff could hospitalise you, in some cases lead to your death or make you out to be a zombie stereotype figure.”There was a lot of talk around how we break the cycle of addiction, mental health and homelessness.” The Duchess of Cambridge at Evelina London Children's Hospital In a short speech the Duchess said: “Thank you to everyone here, you do such an amazing job supporting children and their families both here and out in the community.” The Duchess of Cambridge at Evelina London Children’s HospitalCredit:Getty Kate and William speak to clients and staff at The Passage The Passage carried out a survey of its homeless clients and found 50 per cent had tried the drug at least once in 2016 – when this study was repeated this year the figure had increased to 70 per cent. After giving the couple a private briefing on spice Mr Clarke said: “There was real empathy that came from both the duke and duchess, they very much care about the issue and I think it marks the way they care about the poorest in society and they take their responsibility to raise those issues, to give it the profile that’s needed, very seriously. “I think they genuinely get it in terms of the stuff they’ve done around, say, Heads Together [the mental health campaign] and I think they really appreciated hearing first hand the terrible effects of Spice. Kate and William speak to clients and staff at The PassageCredit:Getty The Duchess meets a shy little girls at Evelina Children's Hospital The Duke of Cambridge has spoken out against the scourge of the drug ‘spice’ after hearing about its devastating effect on the homeless. The Duke and Duchess were left moved by the problems the illegal synthetic high is causing rough sleepers, after learning its usage is increasing according to homeless charity The Passage. The couple toured a central London centre run by the organisation, which has seen an increase in its clients trying the drug at least once.During the visit the Duke told Mick Clarke, chief executive of The Passage: “The fact it was a legal high and that young people were allowed to take it and it leads to addiction is just terrible.”The synthetic drug is seen as a growing problem, and the biggest challenge the homeless charity faces is that it is cheap, readily available and can exacerbate existing problems like poor mental health. EYEWITNESS Its a shame…

…by the PNC on JaganWhen David Granger, Leader of Guyana – and President of Guyana through the help of AFC’s self-professed “Jaganite” Moses Nagamootoo, pulled the commemorative stamps that were supposed to be released on Cheddi Jagan’s 100th birthday, March 22, some bought his claim that the thing “had to be done right”! Meaning that the stamps would be released officially by the State and NOT through the sponsorship of the Cheddi Jagan Research Centre (CJRC) in collaboration with the GPOC and the subject Communications Minister, Cathy Hughes. What a crock that turned out to be! It had nothing to do with “doing the right thing” and all about political spite!! It sticks in the craw of the PNC that Jagan, as the man who founded the PPP, can be credited as “father of Guyana’s Independence”!! Granger just couldn’t allow the CJRC to release the stamps and give proper credit to Jagan. PNCites like Granger contort themselves into pretzels trying to “explain” how Burnham “also” founded the PPP.But the PPP was already formed with individuals who were representative of the country’s polyglot origins. Ashton Chase was the “African” rep. However Jagan’s contact in the Communist Party of England informed him that Forbes Burnham had just become an English lawyer and he’d garner more support in that section. Chase was asked to step aside for Burnham – which he graciously did. So when the PPP was launched with Burnham as the chair and Jagan as the Leader in 1950, space had been created for him in a structure that was already in place!! All that was left was the announcement!!The PNC will NEVER concede Jagan’s pre-eminence! NEVER!! But do they have to be so petty about it?? How’d they issue the commemorative stamps at the Ministry of the Presidency and the President – with every one of his Ministers and Vice Presidents skip the event??!! The unkindest cut of all was the absence of Moses Nagamootoo, who invariably didn’t only call himself a “Jaganite” – but actually referred to Jagan as “Pa”!!Hydar Ally of the CJRC showed up – but after seeing as to how the great man was being snubbed by the Government, he should’ve done the decent (and honourable) thing and walked out! What Granger and the PNC has done is insult all the people who saw Jagan as their leader – half of this country. History will never absolve him from this act of infamy and betrayal to the generosity of spirit that this country is noted for.He should remember that the people of Buxton represented that spirit when they insisted that Jagan’s funeral cortage stop at their village.Granger should hang his head in shame!!…to take PPP’s creditPublic Infrastructure Minister – used to be called “Works”, but that’s the Granger touch! – is basking in the glory of some projects that are proceeding under his watch. But if he had any shame, he’d give much of the credit to the PPP Administration which conceptualised, designed, sourced funding and contractors for the projects!! And which were all criticised by his AFC and PNC when in Opposition!!Take the biggest one over which Patterson’s been preening and puffing out his chest about – the expanded CJIA. Exactly what did he do there – save pay more for less?? And the WCD Highway?? And the EBD bypass – which he’s only gotten around to doing the paperwork with the Government of India!! Three years later!! Does he really want to say he did anything on the new Demerara Harbour Bridge, save ensuring the “Ming Swing” gets into the design so the PNC’s financier can sell his land for a kingdom??But to be fair to him, he is responsible for the D’Urban Park wood ants-stadium!!…the law’s been made an assSome folks don’t even know when to come out of the rain. Three years – and billions of dollars forked out – later, AG Basil Williams finally decided he’d better find out what outstanding cases he’s responsible for!! This dock will make for a cheaper MacBook Air workstation

first_imgWhen it first released, the MacBook Air was all portability, no power. Like many first generation Apple products, it had limited functionality but paved the way for the future. Now that has changed — the latest MacBook Air rivals its big brother, the MacBook Pro, and it just lacks an optical drive. The engineer behind a Kickstarter project wants to simplify the unleashing of the Air’s home computer potential.LandingZone is a docking station for the MacBook Air. It has four USB ports, ethernet, and a mini DisplayPort. Slide your 11- or 13-inch Air (2010 or later) into the dock, snap the connectors into the laptop, and transform your mobile computer into a workstation. The project, the brainchild of Kitae Kwon, has raised nearly $13,000 of its $50,000 goal. Investors pledging $139 or more get the dock, and those promising $299 or more will receive two docks. Kwon says that the unit will eventually retail for $200.The MacBook Air can dock into a workstation without this accessory, but it’s messy. The easiest way is to connect to an Apple Thunderbolt display, but its $1,000 price is daunting. Sadly the LandingZone doesn’t support speedy Thunderbolt transfers, but more common USB devices are covered. With an external display (up to 2560×1440 resolution), USB hard drive, wireless mouse and keyboard, and room for more hardware, the dock allows your MacBook Air to double as a faux iMac.Keeping professionals in mind, Kwon has included a build-in locking port, compatible with all Kensington laptop locks. The Air’s portability makes it a tempting target for thieves; easily locking the laptop into the station lets office dwellers grab lunch without undocking the laptop.LandingZone has until January 1 to reach its goal and receive pledges. Those wanting an affordable workstation for their MacBook Airs can sign up at Kickstarter, but keep in mind that the lack of Thunderbolt will limit the potential of this device and it won’t fully take advantage of the MacBook’s best on-the-desktop features.More at Kickstarterlast_img read more

Little miracle

first_imgAfter 165 days in hospital, five month old baby John Metaxiotis is finally waking up in his own cot, in his own home, surrounded with the warmth of his loving parents.Baby John is nothing short of a miracle. Born at 26 weeks, little John weighed under 400g, and was no longer than a ballpoint pen. But now, weighing 3400g, he is a healthy baby boy. Even though his life so far has been a battle every day, his fight for survival and will to live are a testament to his parents. “You pray every night for a healthy son, and at the end of the day, you ask you shall receive,” says his mother Paula, who tells Neos Kosmos having her son at home finally is “surreal”.“I can’t believe he’s actually home!”Since they were married 15 years ago, all Paula and husband Con wanted was a child. Their focus was starting a family and with 15 IVF attempts and three miscarriages, things weren’t looking good.On their 16th attempt at IVF, Paula admits that she was thinking for a moment maybe it wasn’t going to happen for them, but she and her husband’s determination showed no bounds and they got pregnant.“We were happy but still cautious,” says Paula when she found out they were pregnant. On their seven week scan things were looking good, on the 12 week scan they were quietly confident that they were finally getting the baby they desperately prayed and hoped for. Then on the 20 week scan, things slowly started to unravel. They discovered Paula had high blood pressure and could be a candidate for pre-eclampsia so they had to extra precautions, and they also noticed that the baby’s development, his growth was a little behind schedule to someone his age. On the 23rd week scan, their biggest nightmare was confirmed. The doctors discovered that the placenta was blocked and the baby wasn’t getting the nutrients needed to grow and survive. But in her heart of hearts, Paula knew he would survive, she felt her baby, she knew this was happening, he would be born and he would live. On the 14 December last year, the doctors knew that the could wait no longer, baby John’s chances of survival were better on the outside.“When they told me on the Friday I was devastated because [the doctors] said ‘we can only hope for a good outcome but we just don’t know’”, Paula explains.“I thought to myself we’ve come so far, it can’t be taken away from us, that’s just cruel.”At 12:09 pm on the 14 December, 2013 baby John was born. The tiny little miracle couldn’t be in the arms of his parents and it was a long-hill battle that both Paula and Con took in their stride and at one day at a time.“All your energy becomes focused on your son,” she says on those endless days and nights in the hospital, talking to her son, showeing him with love because as Paula says “it’s love that makes them grow”.“We saw it as our job,” says new dad Con, “and we had to stay positive and not get too emotional.“You have to believe that God is with us to help, and that we are doing the best thing for him to progress.”And that they are. Their little fighter is home and, even though he’s on oxygen to help with the development of his lungs, his heart is healthy and beating well, and his brain is healthy and every day he gets that little bit bigger showered with the love from his family. “His eyes, and his chin,” says mother Paula with a smile in her voice about her favourite quality of her first son who has his pappou’s namesake. “He has this pointy little chin and these big blue eyes, from his pappou.”Such big blue eyes, for a tiny little miracle.

Le 23 juin 2013 à 14:33 • Maxime Lambertlast_img read more

Weather Eye Stretch in 80s could have 90 hot on its heels

first_imgPatrick Timm is a local weather specialist. His column appears Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Reach him at Despite plenty of clouds overhead and a few scattered showers, Vancouver officially had only a trace of rain as of 5 p.m. Wednesday. Of course, some of you had enough to wet the streets but all in all, not that bad, as was expected.Today we see more clouds here and there and maybe a shower over the foothills, but overall it should remain dry. Temperatures will be slow to recover but will hover around the 70-degree mark. On Friday, things begin to warm up into the 70s. There is yet another weak low dropping down the British Columbia coast Friday evening but I expect only clouds, and no rain. Showers may linger over the Cascades into Saturday. The weekend begins under mostly sunny skies by afternoon with temperatures topping out in the low 80s. We warm things up a bit on Father’s Day into the mid-80s. There are still some discrepancies in forecast models on just how hot it will get next week, but I expect that we will launch to 90 or better at some point. And things will dry out quickly. So, like I said here a few days ago, Father’s Day is a go weather-wise, so plan an outdoor event and enjoy. A large low-pressure area sets up over the Great Basin and high pressure over us, so the warm weather next week could last a while as the upper-air pattern will form a block of high pressure over us.Not much movement except bands of rain and thunderstorms circulating around the stationary low to our southeast, always something to watch if thunderstorms build westward toward the Cascades and drift into the valleys. A classic summer pattern, so stay tuned.last_img read more

Median Price For Houston Homes Hits Record High

first_img To embed this piece of audio in your site, please use this code: Listen 00:00 /01:15 X In June, the median price for a single-family home in Houston was more than $230,538, a 2.5 percent increase from a year ago, according to a monthly report by the Houston Association of Realtors.Median means half the homes sold for less and half for more than that amount. At the same time, the average price declined slightly.“And a lot of that has to do with that the majority of the sales right now is that $150,000 to $500,000 range, which would have caused the median to go up,” Shad Bogany, past chairman of the Texas Association of Realtors, said. “But what’s been fueling the average is the higher market, which has gotten a little soft.”The total number of single-family homes sold last month was close to June 2015: about 7,700.Patrick Jankowski, regional economist and vice president of research at the Greater Houston Partnership, feels good about the report, especially the strength in the sales of homes between $150,000 and $500,000.“It tells me that the housing market is still fairly healthy and that we’re not going to see a downturn in volume or a downturn in prices in the near future,” Jankowski said. The region’s single-family home inventory also went up, by 17.2 percent from a year ago.
